On February 13, 2026, the DASH Center for the Arts community had the incredible opportunity to attend a special presentation of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at the historic Fox Theatre in Atlanta. The event was hosted especially for youth and senior community groups, and DASH was honored to be invited to bring members of our community.

In total, 92 members of the DASH community attended, including senior citizens, school-age children ages 6–18, and parents. Experiences like this are exactly what DASH strives to create—opportunities where multiple generations can come together through the arts, learning from one another and sharing in moments of inspiration.
One particularly touching moment came from Ms. Janice, a 76-year-young senior in our group, who shared memories of her own dancing days. She told the students that she had once been accepted to The Juilliard School on a full scholarship. Watching Alvin Ailey brought back joyful memories for her, and she couldn’t help but dance along in her seat during the performance. Seeing her excitement reminded everyone that the love of dance never fades.
At the other end of the age spectrum was one of our youngest students, Carmen, who needed a booster seat just to see the stage. But that didn’t stop her from being captivated by the performance. After the show she excitedly said,
“It was so good. I’m going to dance like that on stage!”
Moments like this remind us why exposure to world-class performances matters. For many of our students, this was their first time experiencing a professional dance company of this caliber live on stage.
After the performance, the DASH community continued the conversation over lunch at Ponce City Market. Executive Director Candi Payne, Acting Coach Miguel Coleman, parents, and students gathered to talk about the show and reflect on what they had just witnessed.
One highlight that many students discussed was the male soloist, whose remarkable control, strength, and precision left a lasting impression. The experience helped students better understand the importance of the technique exercises and drills they practice in class. They saw firsthand how discipline and dedication translate into artistry on stage.
As if the day couldn’t get any better, the group had an unexpected and exciting encounter as they were leaving the theater. They ran into Miranda Quinn, a principal dancer with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Students were able to ask her questions and hear her words of encouragement. She reminded them to take their training seriously, stay committed, and most importantly, enjoy the art of dance.
Of course, the moment ended with a group photo that the students will cherish for years to come.

Experiences like this remind us why the arts matter. They inspire dreams, connect generations, and show young people what is possible when talent meets dedication.
At DASH, we believe every young artist deserves opportunities like this—to see greatness, to learn from it, and to imagine themselves one day standing on that stage.
And after hearing Carmen’s excitement, we wouldn’t be surprised if one day she does.
